Samsung is facing a class action lawsuit in Thailand concerning a defect affecting the OLED displays on several Galaxy smartphone models. The lawsuit has been filed with the Southern Civil Court in Bangkok.

Numerous users have reported the appearance of green or pink vertical lines on their screens. The malfunction primarily impacts devices with OLED screens, where internal component failures lead to the appearance of vertical lines. This defect tends to emerge approximately two years into the lifespan of the devices, raising concerns about the durability and reliability of Samsung’s OLED technology.

The Thailand Consumers Council and 119 affected individuals have now filed a class action lawsuit against Samsung. The plaintiffs claim that the company’s Thai division has been unresponsive to complaints regarding defective devices and has failed to provide any form of compensation or remedy.

Samsung typically provides a one-year limited warranty on its products globally. However, when display defects arise after this warranty period, consumers are usually left to bear the cost of repairs, even when the issues are not due to user misuse. This has led to considerable dissatisfaction among those affected.

In contrast to its practices in India, where customers can receive free screen replacements for OLED defects, no similar policy is available in Thailand. This discrepancy has further fueled the legal dispute.
