A class action lawsuit has been brought in the Federal Court of Australia against General Motors Australia & New Zealand concerning alleged defects in the transmission systems of Holden Commodore and Holden Colorado models.

The lawsuit claims that three specific automatic transmission units—the GM 6L45, 6L50, and 6L80—exhibit defects in various models, including the Commodore VE, Commodore VF, and Trailblazer.

All models implicated in this action were sold from 1 January 2011, and individuals who purchased one of the affected vehicles prior to 24 December 2024 are eligible to register for participation in the class action. The lawsuit aims to secure compensation for loss and damage.

The lawsuit asserts that the transmission systems in the affected vehicles are defective due to a design flaw in the Torque Converter and Torque Converter Clutch. Consequently, these vehicles are prone to a range of issues, including intermittent transmission shudders, excessive vibrations, harsh gear shifts, leakage of Automatic Transmission fluid, accelerated wear of transmission components, and increased servicing needs.

The class action contends that General Motors has not adhered to the guarantee of acceptable quality as stipulated under Australian Consumer Law and has engaged in misleading and deceptive practices.
